Who
We Are
Tanzania Volunteer Experience (TVE) is a locally registered
business owned by Tanzanian nationals and mentored by former
international volunteers. TVE is currently registering to
be a non-profit entity in Tanzania.
Mission
We facilitate the meeting of and interaction between international
volunteers and Tanzanian peoples for the purpose of gaining
a mutually meaningful and productive experience. We provide
a framework for the exchange of ideas, information and resources
to enhance the support of local communities. We provide
support for volunteers especially as they transition into
their new environment.
Values
We are committed to integrity
towards our mission through open communication to all people
and organizations.
We value teamwork
through the sharing of ideas among volunteers, local peoples
& organizations, our staff and all other organizations
involved in supporting our mission.
We value a spirit of goodwill
and believe that we can best serve our volunteers and the
local community
organizations through demonstrated kindness, caring and support.
Financials
TVE operates and provides financial support for community
projects solely through the volunteer program fees. The fees
are used to cover the following;
• costs of daily operations,
• reimbursement of start-up costs,
• contributions to placements and community projects,
• TVE Initiatives.
TVE funded the start-up of its operations in 2007 through
a private no-interest loan. Its short-term goals are to meet
operating expenses, and then pay down the loan and support
community service projects at a cash ratio of 75/25, respectively
until the loan is satisfied. Thereafter, the ratio (after
daily operating expenses) will switch to 80/20 between community
projects and TVE initiatives, respectively. TVE initiatives
would include, but not be limited to, continuing education
for the staff and business expansion.
Through its long-term relationship with the community and
the volunteer placements, TVE is in a unique position to work
with volunteers and community organizations to determine useful
community service projects. TVE will look to contribute in
areas such as education, basic sustenance, home-care, sports
programs, women's groups, and small entrepreneurial projects.
In all cases TVE will require that some investment be made
by the receiving organization to complement TVE's contribution.
